Start-up Australia was a top quartile venture capital investment company founded
by George Jessup and Stephen Robinson. Institutional investors included Industry Funds Management, Macquarie Alternative Investment Fund
and US based Research Corporation Technologies. This venture was a major contributor to the development of venture capital in Australia. Some achievements are:
- Raising and managing two investment funds that generated top quartile returns internationally.
- From these funds (totaling $47.7 million), distributed $85.3 million cash to give the private investors an IRR after all costs of 11.3% per year
for a 12-year period. Impressively, this period spanned the Global Financial Crisis.
- Worked closely with portfolio companies to recruit management, develop high growth strategies, interact with capital markets and develop international partnerships.
- Closely involved in a wide range of corporate transactions and liquidity events in portfolio companies.
- Played a key role in assisting portfolio companies in raising a further $179 million from other sources.
- Five therapeutic drugs taken into clinical trials.
- One drug approved for marketing in the US.

The PIEL Survey is a research app which conducts surveys throughout the day.
It is designed to gather survey data from people in their daily lives.
This allows for a more nuanced understanding of a participant's patterns of thoughts and feelings than traditional survey methods.
The survey and schedule are set by the researcher. Results are emailed back to the researcher.
The app uses the methodology known as "Experience Sampling Methodology" or "Momentary Ecological Assessment".
